Da Lat

The City of Love and Eternal Spring

Explore Our
Da Lat Tour

Da Lat is the capital city of Lam Dong province, Vietnam. It is known as the City of Flowers and honeymooners with lovely French villas, the fresh air, the beautiful waterfalls, and gorgeous lakes sit in a lush and green valley of postcard beauty. Dalat’s specific sights are pine forest with twisting roads and tree marigold, cherry blossom in the winter. The city’s temperate weather stands in contrast to Vietnam’s otherwise tropical climate. Mist covering the valleys almost year-round lead to its name “City of eternal spring”, Spring is eternal and “unique season” in Da Lat. It’s also called “Little Paris” due to its French architecture villas and its replica of the Eiffel Tower built by the Telephone Company that looks like it fell into a pool of red and white color. And really, after driving through tea gardens, coffee, and rubber plantations, one feels almost transplanted to Europe.

Travel Guide

1. Where is Da Lat?

Dalat is the capital of Lam Dong Province in Vietnam. The city is located 1,500 m (4,900 ft) above sea level on the Langbian Plateau in the southern parts of the  Central Highlands region. Da Lat is a popular tourist destination in Vietnam.

Da Lat is located in south-central Vietnam and is one of the oldest destinations in the country where travelers can find great food, fun shopping and plenty of things to do, such as play at the luxury golf course. There are delightful French colonial buildings and waterfalls, and hill-tribe villages while farms and rice paddies can be seen everywhere.

Water Rafting adventure

Fans of adventure activities will fall in love with Da Lat and the surrounding area as outdoor sports are available such as whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, and paragliding.

Da Lat Cable Cars

The cable car ride to Truc Lam Monastery Complex is a popular way to see Da Lat from above, particularly during national and school holidays when families head there to enjoy a picnic. Along the two and a half kilometer ride, the cable car soars over pine tree-covered hills, rivers and rice plantations. Truc Lam Monastery Complex is rather new but already famous for its beautiful pagoda.

Elephant Riding

At Prenn Waterfall visitors can go on elephant rides through small creeks, lakes and green forests. Adventure lovers can have a go at riding an ostrich, amazingly friendly birds. The idea of climbing up on an ostrich’s back can be quite a challenge but once up there, the ride is an exhilarating one.

Hiking around Da lat

Lang Bian Mountain (about 12km north of downtown Da Lat) is one of the most popular locations for a day or a half-day hike and it has five peaks that range from 2100m to 2400m in altitude. Other hot locations for hiking include Ba Be Lake National Park, Pongour Falls and the Lake of Sorrows.

Horseback Riding Experience

Another way to enjoy Dalat’s beautiful countryside is on horseback. Visitors can go horseriding by the hour to take a horse-drawn carriage for a pleasure ride around Da Lat Flower Garden and the Lake of Sorrows. Playing golf at Da Lat Palace Golf Club The 18-hole Da Lat Palace Golf Club opened in 1922 and was later abandoned until 1993 when it underwent restoration and re-opened to the public. Grilled rice paper with egg (Banh Trang Kep)

This is one of the most popular street foods in Da Lat that enthralls both residents and tourists. Many Western tourists call it “Vietnamese pizza” because of its shape and color. This dish requires very simple ingredients and it’s also easy to cook. Its taste is extremely amazing. First of all, they put around rice paper on a charcoal stove and apply oil with chopped green onion on rice paper’s surface. Next, they add egg, minced pork and dried tiny shrimps on top and keep grilling until it has a stunning yellow look with a fantastic smell. If you can stand hot, you can ask them to add some chili sauce on top. Enjoy a piping hot “Vietnamese pizza” in the cold air at night will be an unforgettable experience of your trip to Da Lat.

Salad Da Lat

Locals usually eat this daily. When you go to any shop or restaurant that sell rice, they will always give you a free dish of salad as a side-just like kimchi in Korea! A simple salad can have your typical ingredients such as lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onions, half-boiled eggs, and comes seasoned with vinegar. You can also add some beef or other meat in some places. Last but not least, if you have always dreamt of sitting in a huge fridge while eating greens, Da Lat is “the fridge” that you are looking for. Granted it’s not as cold as other places in the world, but it is cold for Vietnam!

Xap Xap

Name of this dish sounds strange for many people. in fact, it is quite like “Nom Bo Kho”, a sweet and sour salad with dried beef sold in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. The main ingredients of Xap Xap are grated green papaya, simmer pork liver, peanuts, mint leaves, sweet and sour fish sauce and chili sauce on top. Many Western people think this food is a type of appetizer; however, people in Da Lat usually eat it in the afternoon of late-night as a nosh.

Mini Pancake – Banh Can

This dish is a popular breakfast in Da Lat. It may have originated in Binh Thuan province, but after making its way to Da Lat, it became a part of the food culture here. To me, sitting next to a stove in a cold morning, watching the Banh Can lady pour the white mixture of rice powder in a pottery pancake pan, fill it with egg, shrimp or squid and frying it until the pancake is burned slightly, is a nostalgic sight. To you, it may be unique. Normally, a dish of mini pancake have 10 – 12 pieces, and it is served with a bowl of broth, made of fish sauce, green onions, and meatballs. All you have to do is dip the cake in the broth and enjoy the harmony of flavors in your mouth.

Le Select Bar

Le Select Bar is located in the main lobby of the Du Parc Hotel, with large bay windows overlooking the beautiful rolling green hills of Da Lat. The bar is stocked with premium wines and liquors, headed by expert mixologists who shake and stir up A-grade cocktails, customizable to your taste. During the day, Le Select Bar serves a selection of coffee, tea and snacks.

B21 Beer Da Lat

B21 Beer Da Lat is a local favorite, where you can catch the latest football matches on TV screens and/or dance with a fun-loving crowd until late. Set along Truong Cong Dinh Street, this small but busy bar is just a five-minute walk from Da Lat Market. You can find standard cocktails such as mojitos, Singapore Slings, and Pina Coladas, as well as a good selection of beers on tap. Happy hour is from 15:00 until 20:30, when you can enjoy buy-one-free-one promos on all beers and cocktails. The bar gets especially lively after 22:00, with local DJs spinning dance music all night long.

V'club

With pumping dance rhythms, flashy neon lights and cheap alcohol, V’Club is the place everyone mentions for a fun night out in town. This popular bar/club is run by an American-Vietnamese couple who know how to cater to both foreign and local tastes. The drink list is as extensive as the food menu with local and Western favorites including pizza, tacos and vegetarian options, all at reasonable prices. Live music events happen regularly.

Maze Bar

Maze Bar, also known as the 100 Roofs Café, is situated unassumingly amongst a row of small shop-houses in the heart of the city. You will never guess from the outside that this bar is a mystical labyrinth of sorts: A maze of twists and turns, with little rooms and hang-out corners, spread out inside its five floors, all connected by dark passageways and spiraling staircases. Café by day and bar by night, Maze Bar is a fantastic place to spend a couple of hours getting lost and exploring the little nooks and crannies. A must-try for all newcomers is the locally brewed beer.

Langbiang Mountain

Langbiang Mountain, one of the must-see Da Lat attractions in Vietnam, is situated on Lang Biang Plateau, Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province. This is only approximately 12 km far from Da Lat center and sometimes named Lam Vien Mountain (núi Lâm Viên) as well. Legend says that the Langbiang name was originated from the name of a couple who were deeply in love with each other – the man named K’lang and the woman named Ho Biang. Langbiang contains the two highest peaks of Lam Vien highland (Cao nguyên Lâm Viên) and one of them is usually regarded as the roof of Da Lat. The mountain is well-known for its wonderful nature and its marvelous view of the whole wide region of Da Lat City, the rivers, the forest, and houses of tribal people.

Da Lat Station

The next one in regard to famous Da Lat attractions in Da Lat Railway Station, which is recognized as a historic culture by the Ministry of Culture – Information of Vietnam. This is also one of the tourist hotspots in Dalat. Da Lat Railway Station was a train station of Da Lat’s city. This is reckoned the oldest station in Viet Nam as well as Indochina. The station was built by the French from 1932 to 1938 and is the railhead of the Railway Phan Rang-Da Lat, about 84 km in length. The station has a unique architectural style, with three conical roofs, which are the stylization of three Langbiang mountain tops or the hollow of mountain Highlands. The station is currently a hotspot attracting tourists.

Bao Dai’s Summer Palace

Bao Dai was the last emperor/king of Vietnam and ascended to the throne in 1926. He was only 12 years old at that time. With a reputation as a man who enjoyed parties and the good life, Bao Dai spent a good amount of time in Dalat.

Crazy House (Hang Nga Guest House and Art Gallery)

It’s hard to meet people who have visited Dalat and have not been to Hang Nga Guest House and Art Gallery, better known as the ‘Crazy House’ because of its bizarre concept and tree-like shape, designed by Dang Viet Nga, a Soviet-trained Vietnamese architect who first established it in 1990. With a little over a dozen rooms, each with its own unique theme, here you’ll find tunnels, ladders, concrete kangaroos; tigers and bears. If you are lucky, you might have the chance to chat with the designer herself as she is usually present there.

Xuan Huong Lake

At the very heart of Da Lat City, Xuan Huong Lake adds character to a beautiful town like Da Lat. This man-made lake has become a major landmark when it comes to romantic Da Lat attractions. Used to be the site in which a lot of indigenous people of Langbiang highland inhabited, the lake supplies a good focal point to the city and is a valuable landmark when you get lost on your wanderings. Interestingly, this is a man-made lake and is nowadays the most beautiful lake of Da Lat, giving this romantic city an invaluable gift of having a lake right in its center.

Dalat Market

Dalat Market is a commercial center of Dalat city located on the main street: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street and is considered “the heart of Dalat city”. This market is not only for shopping activities but also attracting tourists to come to visit when they are in Dalat.

Cam Ly waterfall

Cam Ly Waterfall is only 2km to the west of Dalat Market, near the end of Hoang Van Thu Street. This is the nearest waterfall to the center of Dalat city. Lach people call Cam Ly waterfall is LiengToSra, later changed to Cam Ly waterfall named from Cam Le stream flowing from Lieng To Sra to Da Dong river. The leader of the K’ho people was named K’Mly so people in the area use his name for their stream to remember the dedication of the village’s leader. For a long time, people pronounced in wrong way became Cam Ly.
