Walk through its quiet streets, admire the traditional houses of bamboo and rattan, and watch locals weaving brocade textiles or tending to rice fields. It&#8217;s ideal for tourists seeking quiet, immersive experiences.</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><b>3.7. Pa Co Fair Market</b></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Scheduled every Sunday morning, Pa Co Market is a color ethnic market where H&#8217;mong, Dao, and Thai people gather to trade items, socialize, and show off traditional wear. It&#8217;s a visual treat with multi-colored fabrics, fresh produce and fruits, and the scent of local delicacies. Take your camera and open your mind.</span></p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;"><b>4. Mai Chau Food Guide </b></h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mai Chau offers a unique dining experience that celebrates the rich agricultural heritage and ethnic diversity of <a href="https://luxtraveldmc.com/destinations/vietnam">Vietnam&#8217;s</a> northern highlands. The food is simple yet rich in flavor, often made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients such as mountain herbs, wild greens, and staple grains. Many of the dishes carry deep cultural significance and are often served communally, filling every meal with warmth and togetherness.</span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><b>Com Lam (Bamboo Rice)</b></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of the most popular of Mai Chau&#8217;s foods may be Com Lam, or bamboo rice. Sticky rice is soaked and then forced tightly into bamboo tubes before being slowly roasted over a wood fire.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_19562" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-19562" style="width: 900px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-19562 size-full" src="https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-19.jpg" alt="Com Lam Hoa Binh" width="900" height="600" srcset="https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-19.jpg 900w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-19-300x200.jpg 300w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-19-768x512.jpg 768w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-19-585x390.jpg 585w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-19-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-19562" class="wp-caption-text">Com Lam (Source: Bach Hoa Xanh)</figcaption></figure>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">This method gives the rice a subtle smoky aroma and a touch of nuttiness. Com Lam is usually served with the grilled pork or chicken meats and fresh herbs and chili chilies as side dishes, and thus it is a satisfying and filling dish that very much reflects the rustic character of the region.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><b>Where to try:</b></p>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><b>Mai Chau Ecolodge Restaurant</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> &#8211; Na Phon Village</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><b>Quan 38</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> &#8211; Lac Village (Com lam served with grilled pork skewers)</span></li>
</ul>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><b>Grilled Mountain Pork</b></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mai Chau mountain pig pork is prized for its softness and rich flavor, earned through free-range rearing in the local forest.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meat is marinated in a mixture of native herbs like lemongrass, wild ginger, and garlic before being grilled over charcoal to give it a crispy exterior with juicy smoky flesh inside. The dishes are normally served with a dipping sauce made from salt, chili, and lime that brings out the natural flavors.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><b>Where to try:</b></p>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><b>Homestays in Lac or Pom Coong Village</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> &#8211; Most offer freshly grilled meat as part of dinner</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><b>Mai Chau Rustic Home Restaurant</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> &#8211; Pom Coong Village</span></li>
</ul>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><b>Five-Colored Sticky Rice</b></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">This vibrant meal is an experience for the eyes as much as the palate. Five-colored sticky rice is made by coloring glutinous rice with natural dyes from flowers, leaves, and roots-but examples can include magenta from magenta flowers, green from pandan leaves, and yellow from turmeric.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_19563" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-19563" style="width: 900px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-19563 size-full" src="https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-20.jpg" alt="Five Colored Sticky Rice" width="900" height="600" srcset="https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-20.jpg 900w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-20-300x200.jpg 300w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-20-768x512.jpg 768w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-20-585x390.jpg 585w, https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Thiet-ke-chua-co-ten-20-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-19563" class="wp-caption-text">Five-Colored Sticky Rice (Source: MOTOGO Tours)</figcaption></figure>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The wine is hot in constitution and typically accompanies toasts and country songs, hence becoming a part of Mai Chau&#8217;s social and cultural life.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">It was once a large untouched mountain region but changed since the area has become large dam water following the construction of the hydroelectric plant in Hoa Binh in 1979. Until now, it is an attractive place for all travelers and is better known by the name Ba Khan.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Admire a beautiful waterfall called Lao Mu which is not far from the center Ba Khan lined from the middle of the bamboo forests, this is where many locals come to chil out in summer time.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Follow the road down the waterfall toward the junction of San Phuc, and then turn right to reach the path that leading you to the Hoa Binh Lake. You will be touched by such an idyllic setting of lush landscapes of thousands of islands floating on the water where you have chance to take a boat ride through the lake.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify; line-height: 25px;"><a href="https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/hoa-binh-lake.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-287" src="https://luxtraveldmc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/hoa-binh-lake.jpg" alt="Hoa binh lake . <p style="text-align: justify;">There are not much accommodation options in the area, in the Tan Mai town just next to Ba Khan and about 5km from the waterfall there is a stilt traditional house where you can home stay, the place is safe and it  overlooks the bamboo forest and the lake. All of the few home stays offer half a day boat trip in Hoa Binh Lake with reasonable prices.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ba Khan is one of the best options for a 2 days trip from Hanoi as the area is suitable for a motorcycle adventure as well, check out from all <a href="https://luxtraveldmc.com/destinations/vietnam" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Vietnam packages tours</a> and if you have time, do not miss it, you will never regret this trip!</p>
