A honeymoon in Vietnam does not have to be built entirely around beaches and resorts. For couples who want cultural depth without giving up time to relax, Hue offers an appealing alternative: an imperial city where heritage, spirituality, food and a slower pace can be combined with increasingly sophisticated wellness experiences.

This combination is particularly relevant in 2026, as luxury hospitality in Hue continues to develop more personalised wellness programmes. The current Wellness Journey at Azerai La Residence Hue, for example, brings together spa treatments, yoga, meditation, herbal therapies, healthy cuisine and a cultural experience at Tu Hieu Pagoda. Rather than treating this as a hotel package to be followed step by step, it is more useful to see it as an example of how a Vietnam tour for honeymoon can use Hue to create a more restorative chapter within a wider journey.

1. Why Hue Is Emerging as a Different Kind of Honeymoon Destination

Hue offers a different emotional experience from Vietnam’s more obvious honeymoon destinations. As the former imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty, the city is defined by royal architecture, gardens, temples, pagodas and the Perfume River, creating an atmosphere that is cultural and contemplative rather than overtly resort-oriented. The Complex of Hue Monuments has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, reflecting the city’s historical importance as Vietnam’s political, cultural and religious centre.

For honeymoon couples, this heritage is valuable precisely because it does not need to occupy the entire day. A carefully chosen visit to the Imperial City or a royal tomb can provide a strong cultural experience, while the remainder of the day can be deliberately left slower. This creates a useful contrast with the more active parts of a Vietnam journey, particularly when couples have already spent time exploring Hanoi, travelling through rural areas or moving between several destinations.

Hue also has a quality that is increasingly relevant to contemporary honeymoon planning: privacy does not necessarily mean isolation. Couples can stay in an elegant riverside setting, explore heritage sites with a private guide, enjoy a long lunch or wellness treatment, and still feel connected to the character of the destination. The experience is less about escaping Vietnam and more about experiencing a quieter, more intimate side of it.

That makes Hue particularly interesting for couples who want their Vietnam tour for honeymoon to have a stronger sense of place. Rather than adding another resort simply for relaxation, Hue allows relaxation to become part of a cultural experience.

2. What a Wellness-Led Honeymoon in Hue Actually Looks Like

Wellness on honeymoon should not be confused with a tightly scheduled retreat. For most couples, its greatest value comes from creating a different rhythm: fewer rushed transfers, time for restorative treatments, slower mornings, good food and activities that allow the body and mind to come down from the intensity of wedding preparations and long-haul travel.

A well-designed wellness stay can combine several elements without making any one of them dominant. Spa treatments provide physical relaxation, while yoga and meditation create quieter periods during the day. Herbal therapies introduce a Vietnamese dimension, and healthy cuisine can complement rather than replace the pleasure of exploring Hue’s distinctive food culture.

This is where the 2026 Wellness Journey at Azerai La Residence Hue is useful as a current example. The programme includes a 60-minute spa treatment for two each day, together with yoga and meditation, herbal treatments, healthy dining and other wellness activities; the programme is currently offered for stays through the end of 2026. The relevance for honeymoon planning is not that couples should necessarily use every element, but that several traditionally separate wellness experiences can now be incorporated into one coherent stay.

The distinction becomes important when choosing treatments. A couple arriving after several active days may benefit most from restorative massage and unstructured time, while another couple may be interested in yoga, meditation or herbal therapies because they want to explore a different aspect of Vietnamese wellness culture. The right combination should therefore depend on the couple’s energy, interests and the pace of the wider journey rather than on the number of inclusions available.

Food can play a similar role. Healthy cooking or locally inspired wellness cuisine can introduce a lighter dimension after several days of indulgent Vietnamese meals, but there is no reason for a honeymoon to become a restrictive culinary programme. From a DMC perspective, the more interesting approach is to use wellness dining as a contrast within the journey while continuing to give couples opportunities to enjoy Hue’s regional cuisine.

This balance is what separates a wellness-led honeymoon from simply booking a spa hotel. The purpose is not to fill the schedule with treatments, but to create enough space for the couple to actually feel rested.

A Vietnam tour for honeymoon combining spa rituals, meditation, herbal therapies and meaningful time together.

3. How to Combine Wellness With Hue’s Royal Heritage

The most important experience-design decision is what not to do. Hue contains enough historical attractions to fill several days, but combining a full sightseeing schedule with an intensive wellness programme would undermine the reason for choosing a restorative honeymoon in the first place.

The better approach is to select heritage experiences that provide different perspectives on Hue. The Imperial City is the natural introduction to the Nguyen Dynasty and the structure of imperial Hue, while a carefully chosen royal tomb reveals a different relationship between architecture, gardens and landscape. Religious sites such as Tu Hieu Pagoda add another dimension, moving the experience away from court history towards spirituality and everyday cultural traditions.

Tu Hieu is particularly suitable for a wellness-oriented stay because its atmosphere provides a natural counterpoint to the formal grandeur of the Imperial City. The pagoda is set within a wooded environment and is associated with the Vietnamese Zen tradition, offering couples a quieter cultural encounter rather than another major monument to photograph and leave.

The fact that the current Azerai Wellness Journey includes a half-day experience at Tu Hieu Pagoda followed by a vegetarian lunch at a Buddhist nunnery is therefore interesting from an experience-design perspective. It demonstrates how a cultural visit can reinforce the wellness theme rather than compete with it.

For a private Vietnam tour for honeymoon, the same principle can be applied more broadly. The goal is to create contrast: imperial grandeur followed by quiet surroundings, active exploration followed by a treatment, cultural interpretation followed by time without a schedule. When these transitions are intentional, the honeymoon feels more sophisticated without requiring more activities.

Experience a Vietnam tour for honeymoon where royal heritage and tranquil wellness create a natural rhythm (Hue Imperial City)

4. How to Plan the Right Pace for a 2–3 Day Honeymoon in Hue

Two to three days can be enough to experience Hue meaningfully, provided the stay is planned around rhythm rather than coverage. The exact balance depends on whether the couple is more interested in heritage or relaxation, but neither should be allowed to overwhelm the other.

The first practical consideration is timing. Hue’s heritage sites are best approached when walking conditions are comfortable, particularly during warmer months, while wellness treatments are often more enjoyable when they are not squeezed between tightly timed excursions. Private transportation makes it possible to adjust departure times, avoid unnecessary waiting and return to the hotel when the couple wants a break rather than because a group schedule requires it.

The second consideration is recovery time. Couples frequently underestimate how much unstructured time they will want during a honeymoon. A long breakfast, an afternoon by the river, a treatment followed by a quiet hour, or an evening without a scheduled departure can be more valuable than adding another attraction.

This becomes especially important when Hue is one part of a longer Vietnam journey. Couples arriving after several days of sightseeing may need more wellness and less touring, while those beginning their honeymoon in Hue may have more energy for cultural exploration. A DMC should therefore treat the two- or three-day stay as part of the overall travel rhythm, not as an isolated city break.

Weather should also influence the balance. Hue experiences a distinct rainy period, with heavier rainfall generally occurring from autumn into the winter months, while summer can be hot and humid. Rather than cancelling cultural exploration because of a less favourable weather day, private travel allows the schedule to shift toward indoor heritage experiences, spa treatments, dining or other activities and return to outdoor sites when conditions improve.

The key is flexibility without losing structure. A honeymoon still benefits from having reservations and carefully coordinated transportation, but it should never feel as though the couple is constantly trying to catch the next appointment.

A Vietnam tour for honeymoon designed around private experiences, flexible pacing and restorative moments in Hue. (Alba Wellness Valley by Fusion)

5. Why This Balance Works Especially Well on a Private Honeymoon

This is where the role of a local DMC becomes particularly relevant. Wellness appointments, private heritage visits, restaurant reservations and transportation are individually easy to arrange, but the quality of the honeymoon depends on how these elements interact.

Consider a couple arriving in Hue after several physically active days. A generic tour programme may still schedule an afternoon of sightseeing because it is part of the standard package. A tailor-made journey can recognise that the better choice may be a shorter cultural visit followed by a treatment and an evening left completely free.

The opposite can also be true. If a couple has a strong interest in Vietnamese history, there is no reason to reduce cultural exploration simply because the journey has a wellness component. The private format allows the DMC to increase the depth of guiding, select the most relevant royal sites and adjust the pace around the couple’s interests.

Coordination also matters at a more practical level. Spa appointments need to fit around sightseeing; private vehicles need to be positioned at the right time; restaurant reservations should account for the couple’s preferred dining rhythm; and cultural visits should avoid creating unnecessary backtracking across the city.

These details rarely appear in a honeymoon brochure, but they are exactly what determine whether a short stay feels effortless or over-organised.

There is also an important psychological dimension. A honeymoon is personal, and couples do not necessarily want every moment managed for them. The role of the DMC should therefore be partly invisible: ensuring that the important elements are coordinated while protecting enough private time for the couple to experience Hue at their own pace.

Final Thoughts: Let Hue Slow the Honeymoon Down

The strongest Vietnam tour for honeymoon is not necessarily the one with the most exclusive hotels or the longest list of experiences. It is the one in which each destination has a clear role and the pace allows couples to enjoy it.

Hue’s particular strength is its ability to combine two experiences that can sometimes feel disconnected: cultural discovery and genuine relaxation. Its imperial heritage provides depth and atmosphere, while the city’s growing wellness offering gives couples a reason to slow down rather than simply move on to the next attraction.

The 2026 Wellness Journey at Azerai La Residence Hue is one timely example of this evolution, bringing together spa treatments, yoga, meditation, herbal therapies, healthy cuisine and a cultural experience around Tu Hieu Pagoda. But the more important opportunity is how such experiences can be integrated into a private journey according to the couple’s own priorities.

Lux Travel DMC can design a tailor-made honeymoon in Hue around that balance, coordinating private heritage experiences, wellness, dining and transportation while protecting the unplanned time that makes a honeymoon feel genuinely private. Instead of simply adding wellness to a sightseeing programme, the aim is to make the entire stay move at a more considered pace – giving couples the chance to discover Hue, unwind and enjoy being together.

Bach Ma National Park is Hue, Vietnam’s natural treasure with a rich, diverse ecosystem and captivating, expansive natural beauty. Save this detailed experience guide for visiting Bach Ma National Forest right away.

With its lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and diverse wildlife, this ecological haven is a must-visit for travelers seeking adventure and tranquility. Located in Thua Thien Hue Province, approximately 40 km from Hue and 65 km from Da Nang, Bach Ma offers a refreshing retreat from the bustling cities, blending breathtaking landscapes with rich biodiversity. Let’s dive into everything you need to know to plan your visit to this captivating destination.

1. Overview of Bach Ma National Park

1.1. Where Is It and Why Visit?

Bach Ma National Park, established in 1991, spans over 37,500 hectares in the Annamite Mountain Range, making it one of Vietnam’s most biodiverse regions. Positioned halfway between Hue and Da Nang, the park is easily accessible and serves as a perfect day trip or overnight adventure. Its blend of pristine nature and historical French colonial villas makes it a unique and enriching destination for eco-tourism.

The park’s elevation, reaching its peak at 1,450 meters at Bach Ma Mountain, creates a cool microclimate, along with a complex of nearly 139 villas, markets, post office, grocery stores and a small 19-kilometer automobile road starting from the national highway. The resort also features a system of trails leading to villas and natural landscapes such as Hai Vong Dai (Sea View Platform), Forest Park, Singing Stone Park, Indochina Scout Camp, and various streams and waterfalls including Hoang Yen Stream, Bac Waterfall, Ngu Ho Waterfall, and Do Quyen Waterfall.

Today, many of the aforementioned destinations have been devastated, but visitors can still see fragments of ruined walls built from granite stone along the trail routes – traces of a golden era, often compared to Sapa, Tam Dao, and Da Lat of Central Vietnam.

Camping fee: 30,000 VND per adult for those staying overnight.

Upon entry, visitors receive a map at the visitor center, which is helpful for navigating the park’s trails. For a guided experience, you can hire an English-speaking guide, highly recommended for first-time visitors or those keen on learning about the park’s ecosystem.

1.3. Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Bach Ma National Park is during the dry season, from March to September, when the weather is mild, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C. This period is ideal for trekking, birdwatching, and outdoor activities, as rainfall is minimal, and trails are less slippery.

Spring (February to April) is particularly pleasant, with blooming rhododendrons adding vibrant colors to the landscape, especially around Do Quyen Waterfall. March is also the prime time to witness the park’s famous “Do Quyen” flowers in full bloom.

The rainy season (October to February) brings lush greenery and fuller waterfalls, but heavy rainfall can make trails slippery and challenging. If you visit during this time, pack rain gear and sturdy shoes, and check the weather forecast to avoid sudden downpours. Bach Ma’s high elevation means it can experience “four seasons in a day,” so be prepared for fluctuating conditions regardless of the season.

1.4. How to Get There

Getting to Bach Ma National Park is straightforward, with multiple transportation options from nearby cities:

From Hue (40 km, ~1 hour): The most convenient starting point is Hue. You can rent a motorbike for a scenic ride along National Highway 1A, costing around 150,000–200,000 VND per day. Alternatively, book a private car for approximately 73 USD for a round trip, offering door-to-door service. Public buses from Hue to Cau Hai (a 3 km ride from the park’s entrance) cost around 70,000 VND, followed by a short motorbike taxi (xe om) ride to the visitor center.

From Da Nang (65 km, ~1.5 hours): Rent a motorbike or book a private car (around 103 USD for a sedan). Public buses from Da Nang to Cau Hai cost about 90,000 VND, with a xe om to the park entrance afterward.

From Hoi An (90 km, ~2 hours): A private car from Hoi An costs around 108 USD. Motorbike rentals are also an option for adventurous travelers, but ensure your vehicle is sturdy, as the 19 km road from the park entrance to the summit is steep and winding.

2. Top Activities and Attractions in Bach Ma National Park

Bach Ma National Park is packed with activities and attractions that cater to adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking peace. Here are the must-visit spots and things to do:

2.1. Birdwatching and Calling

Bach Ma National Park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, home to over 360 bird species, including 16 listed in Vietnam’s Red Book and 13 in the IUCN Red List. Rare species like the Vietnamese crested argus and Edwards’s pheasant make this a bucket-list destination for ornithologists. Guides often mimic bird calls to attract species like the orange-bellied leafbird or golden-throated barbet, bringing them close for observation. A typical birding tour starts early in the morning to catch peak activity and can last 4–6 hours. Bring binoculars, insect repellent, and a camera to capture the vibrant avian life.

2.2. Bach Ma Peak and Hai Vong Dai

The crown jewel of the park is Bach Ma Peak, standing at 1,450 meters above sea level. A 19 km paved road from the entrance leads to the Hai Vong Dai (Sea Watching Tower), a French-era structure offering panoramic views of Lang Co Bay, Truoi Lake, and the East Sea. The short, 1 km hike to the tower is accessible for all ages and rewards you with breathtaking vistas, especially during sunrise or sunset when the light casts a golden glow over the landscape. You can drive or be driven to the parking lot near the summit, making it an easy stop before exploring other trails.

Vong Hai Dai in Bach Ma – a heavenly viewpoint in the dreamy land of Hue, Vietnam (source: Collected)

2.3. Truoi Lake and Truc Lam Bach Ma Zen Monastery

At the foot of Bach Ma Mountain lies Truoi Lake, a serene body of water surrounded by lush greenery. Rent a boat (15-minute ride) to reach the Truc Lam Bach Ma Zen Monastery, a tranquil retreat perfect for meditation and reflection. After climbing 172 steps to the monastery’s Three-Entrance Gate, you’ll be greeted by stunning views of the lake and surrounding architecture. This spot offers a peaceful contrast to the park’s more adventurous activities, making it ideal for those seeking a moment of calm amidst nature.

Truc Lam Bach Ma Zen Monastery (source: collected)

2.4. Ngu Ho (Five Lakes)

The Ngu Ho (Five Lakes) trail is a highlight for trekkers, featuring five cascading lakes connected by a 2 km trail from Bach Ma Peak. The third lake, shaped like a full moon, is considered the most picturesque and a great spot for a refreshing swim. The trail involves crossing streams and navigating rocky paths, so wear sturdy, waterproof hiking shoes and watch for slippery stones. Allow 2–4 hours for the round trip, depending on whether you stop to swim or relax. The serene beauty of the lakes, surrounded by dense jungle, makes this a must-do activity.

At lakes No. 4 and 5, visitors can swim, but please note that the water is quite cold

2.5. Black Cedar Forest Trail

The Black Cedar Forest Trail is a lesser-known gem, offering a moderate trek through towering trees and vibrant flora. This trail is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the park’s dense jungle without the crowds. Along the way, you may spot rare plants like orchids or even glimpse wildlife such as macaques or deer. The trail is well-marked but can be slippery after rain, so long socks and proper footwear are essential to protect against leeches and uneven terrain.

2.6. Do Quyen Waterfall

Do Quyen Waterfall, named after the vibrant rhododendron flowers that bloom in spring, is one of Bach Ma’s most iconic attractions. This 300-meter-high waterfall cascades down rocky steps, creating a mesmerizing display of white foam. Reaching the base requires descending nearly 700 steps, a challenging but rewarding trek that takes about an hour. March to June is the best time to visit, as the rhododendrons are in full bloom, adding splashes of red and pink to the lush greenery. Bring a poncho and non-slip shoes, as the path can be wet and slippery.

Trekking to explore Do Quyen Waterfall in the heart of Bach Ma National Park is a beloved experience (source: Jungle Boss)

2.7. Hobbit Village

For a quirky twist, visit the Hobbit Village at the foot of Bach Ma Mountain. This picnic and photo spot features charming, hobbit-like structures nestled among the trees, perfect for Instagram-worthy shots. It’s a fun stop for families or those looking for a lighthearted break from trekking. The village is easily accessible from the park entrance and offers a unique blend of whimsy and nature.

3. Local Cuisine to Try at Bach Ma National Park

Dining options within Bach Ma National Park are limited to a few restaurants and rest stops operated under the park’s management to minimize environmental impact. While the menus are simple, they offer authentic Vietnamese dishes that showcase the flavors of Central Vietnam. For a tailored experience, you can pre-order meals to suit your preferences. Here are some local specialties to try at Bach Ma Village or nearby eateries at the park’s foothills:

Bun Bo Hue: A spicy beef noodle soup, Hue’s signature dish, featuring lemongrass, chili, and tender beef slices.

Banh Bot Loc: Translucent tapioca dumplings filled with shrimp and pork, served with fish sauce.

Com Hen: A unique Hue dish of baby basket clams served with rice, herbs, and peanuts.

Ca Tre Nuong: Grilled catfish, often wrapped in banana leaves for a smoky flavor.

Banh It Tran: Sticky rice dumplings stuffed with mung bean or shrimp, a delightful snack.

For a more immersive experience, visit Bach Ma Village Café & Bar for refreshing drinks and light meals after a day of trekking. Since food options are limited within the park, consider bringing snacks, fruits, or a packed lunch, especially if you’re camping. Always dispose of waste properly to respect the park’s eco-friendly regulations.

4. Tips for Exploring Bach Ma National Park

To make the most of your visit to Bach Ma National Park, keep these practical tips in mind:

Wear Appropriate Gear: Sturdy, waterproof hiking shoes and long socks are essential to navigate rocky trails and protect against leeches, especially during the rainy season. Pack lightweight layers, a poncho, sunglasses, and insect repellent to handle the park’s unpredictable weather.

Bring Essentials: Carry enough water, snacks, and a fully charged phone or camera, as mobile signals are weak in the park. A power bank is handy for extended trips.

Hire a Guide: While it’s possible to explore independently, a local guide enhances the experience by sharing insights about the park’s flora, fauna, and history. They also help you stay on marked trails to avoid getting lost.

Plan for Time: A day trip covers the main attractions, but overnight camping allows for a deeper connection with nature. Book tents in advance (250,000 VND plus cleaning fees) or stay at homestays near the park entrance for 300,000 VND per night.

Respect Nature: Follow park rules, avoid littering, and stick to designated trails to preserve the ecosystem. Be cautious of wildlife, such as snakes or insects, and avoid entering old tunnels used during the Vietnam War.

Check Weather Conditions: Bach Ma’s high elevation means sudden weather changes. Check forecasts and avoid trekking during heavy rain to ensure safety.

Book Tours in Advance: For activities like mountain biking or birdwatching, contact the park 5–7 days in advance to secure permits and rentals.

Bach Ma National Park is a captivating ecological getaway that combines adventure, serenity, and natural beauty. Plan your trip with these insights, pack wisely, and get ready to discover one of Vietnam’s most enchanting natural wonders.

Tip: Check for special night events or cultural performances hosted within the citadel for an even richer experience.

2. Admire the Dazzling Trang Tien Bridge

No exploration of things to do in Hue at night is complete without visiting Trang Tien Bridge, a historic icon spanning the Perfume River. Designed with Gothic architecture, this 400-meter bridge dazzles with a colorful LED light display that shifts from silver to vibrant hues like red, blue, and purple.

Walking along its pedestrian lanes offers stunning views of the river and city skyline, perfect for photography. Nearby, street vendors sell local snacks like nem lụi (grilled pork skewers) for a quick bite. The bridge is free to visit and accessible 24/7, making it a must-see in the nightlife in Hue Vietnam.

Tip: Visit during the summer (May to July) to see vibrant phoenix flowers blooming along the riverbanks, enhancing the scenery.

3. Experience Ca Hue on the Perfume River (Sông Hương)

For a soulful cultural experience, nightlife in Hue Vietnam shines with Ca Hue, traditional folk music performed on dragon boats drifting along the Perfume River. These evening cruises, departing from Toa Kham Wharf near Trang Tien Bridge, feature live performances of poetic melodies accompanied by traditional instruments like the đàn bầu.

Nestled along Vietnam’s central coast, Lang Co Beach is a breathtaking escape where soft white sands meet crystal-clear waters. Tucked between the vibrant cities of Hue and Da Nang, this serene bay offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, adventure, and relaxation. Recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful bays, Lang Co Beach captivates with its pristine shores, lush mountains, and tranquil lagoons. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat or an exciting coastal adventure, Lang Co Beach is a must-visit destination in Vietnam.

1. Why Lang Co Beach Steals Hearts

Tucked away in Phu Loc District, Thua Thien Hue Province, Lang Co Beach stretches 42.5 km along Lang Co Bay, a gem recognized in 2009 as the 30th member of the Worldbays Club at its summit in Setubal, Portugal. Just 60 km from Hue and 20 km from Da Nang, it’s a breeze to visit if you’re exploring Vietnam’s Central Heritage Road, which connects iconic spots like Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary, and Phong Nha. Flanked by the dramatic Hai Van and Phu Gia Passes, the beach offers jaw-dropping views of clear waters framed by green mountains.

From above, Lang Co Beach looks like a silky ribbon of sand curling along the coast. Nearby, Lap An Lagoon and quaint fishing villages add a cozy, local charm. Back in the day, Lang Co was just a pit stop for travelers crossing Hai Van Pass, with a few seafood stalls and small eateries. But since the Hai Van Tunnel opened in 2005, tourism has boomed. Today, you’ll find resorts, restaurants, and activities that make Lang Co Beach a vibrant destination for anyone traveling between Hue and Da Nang.

Lang Co Beach looks like a silky ribbon of sand curling along the coast (source: collected)

The name “Lang Co” has a fun history. Some say it comes from the French pronunciation of “An Cu,” a nearby fishing village. Others believe it’s from “Làng Cò” (Stork Village), as storks used to flock here. Whatever the origin, Lang Co Beach is now a beloved spot for its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere.

2. Getting to Lang Co Beach

Reaching Lang Co Beach is easy and fun, with options for every traveler. Here’s how to get there from Hue or Da Nang:

By Motorbike

Nothing beats cruising to Lang Co Beach on a motorbike, feeling the sea breeze and soaking in the views. Rent a bike for 150,000–200,000 VND/day and hit National Highway 1A. From Hue (60 km, ~1 hour), ride through Phu Bai and Phu Loc, passing the stunning Tam Giang-Cau Hai Lagoon and the winding Phuoc Tuong Pass. For a quicker trip, zip through the Phuoc Tuong Tunnel. From Da Nang (20 km, ~30 minutes), head down Nguyen Van Linh Street to Nam O, then follow signs to Hai Van Pass or Tunnel. It’s a scenic ride perfect for adventure lovers.

By Car

For comfort, book a private car. From Hue, a round trip costs around 75 USD and takes about 1 hour. From Da Nang, it’s closer—20 km and about 50 USD round trip. The Hai Van Tunnel is the fastest route for cars, but if you’ve got time, take the Hai Van Pass for incredible views of Lang Co Beach from above. Many drivers stop at scenic lookouts, so bring your camera!

By Train

Love a leisurely journey? Take a train from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to Hue or Da Nang. Tickets range from 350,000–1,200,000 VND depending on the seat type. The ride offers gorgeous coastal views, making it a relaxing way to travel. From Hue’s Phu Bai Station, grab a taxi for a 75 km, 1-hour ride to Lang Co. From Da Nang Station, it’s a quick 20 km, 30-minute taxi trip. Check schedules and prices at dsvn.vn.

By Plane

Flying is the quickest option. Book a flight to Phu Bai Airport (Hue) or Da Nang Airport with Vietnam Airlines or VietjetAir, starting at 1,700,000 VND. From Phu Bai, a taxi to Lang Co Beach (75 km) takes about 1 hour. From Da Nang, it’s a short 20 km drive through the Hai Van Pass or Tunnel. Both airports are well-connected, making this a hassle-free choice.

3. Top 5 Things to Do at Lang Co Beach

1. Swim and Chill at Canh Duong and Lang Co Beaches

Nothing says vacation like splashing in the clear waters of Lang Co Beach or nearby Canh Duong Beach. Both are in Phu Loc District and boast soft sands and gentle waves. The best time to visit is April to July, when the weather is sunny and the sea is calm. Canh Duong, near Chan May Port, is a hotspot for catching fiery sunrises. Lang Co Beach, at the foot of Hai Van Pass, feels like a dream with its mountain backdrop—Emperor Khai Dinh once called it heavenly! At quieter spots like Chan May, swim near the shore since lifeguards may not be around.

Nothing says vacation like splashing in the clear waters of Lang Co Beach or nearby Canh Duong Beach

2. Catch Magical Sunrises and Sunsets at Lap An Lagoon

Just below Phu Gia Pass, Lap An Lagoon (also called An Cu Lagoon) is a peaceful spot that looks like it’s straight out of a postcard. Visit between 5:00–6:30 AM to watch the sunrise paint the sky over the glassy water. Or come in the late afternoon for a sunset that turns the Bach Ma Mountains orange and pink. You’ll see colorful fishing boats and oyster cages dotting the lagoon, adding a rustic vibe. Try fishing with locals or just snap photos of this gorgeous scene.

Lap An Lagoon – The Precious Gem of Hue near Lang Co Beach at Sunset (cource: collected)

3. See Lang Co Bay from Hai Van Pass

The view of Lang Co Beach from Hai Van Pass is pure magic. The bay’s emerald waters and white sands are framed by rugged cliffs, making it a must-see. Stop at lookouts along the pass for panoramic views or head to the base for a popular photo spot. There’s a small drink stand where you can grab a coconut and soak in the beauty. It’s a moment you’ll want to capture forever.

4. Cool Off at Suoi Mo Waterfall

When the sun gets hot, head to Suoi Mo (Dream Stream) in Phu Loc District. This waterfall has crystal-clear pools perfect for a refreshing dip, surrounded by lush forests. Other nearby streams like Suoi Voi (Elephant Stream) or Suoi Tien (Fairy Stream) are just as inviting. Listen to the water flow, feel the breeze, and let the stress melt away in these natural hideaways.

When the sun gets hot, head to Suoi Mo (Dream Stream) in Phu Loc District (source: collected)

5. Wander Through Lang Co Fishing Village

Take a quick 2 km drive from Lang Co town to its 250-year-old fishing village. Tucked between mountains and the sea, this place feels untouched by time. Watch fishermen cast nets or mend their wooden boats, or join them for a day on the water. The village connects to Lap An Lagoon, where sunsets cast a golden glow over the calm waters. It’s a chance to see the real, everyday life of Lang Co.

4. Where to Eat Near Lang Co Beach

Lang Co is a food lover’s paradise, especially if you’re into seafood and Hue’s bold flavors. Here are some must-try dishes:

2. Unveiling the Rich History of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue

The history of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue spans over four centuries, making it one of the oldest and most significant religious sites in Vietnam. The pagoda was founded in 1601 by Nguyen Hoang, the first Nguyen Lord, who played a pivotal role in expanding Vietnamese territory southward. According to legend, Nguyen Hoang was exploring the area when an elderly woman appeared to him on Ha Khe Hill. She prophesied that a lord would build a pagoda on this site, bringing prosperity to the land. Taking this as a divine sign, Nguyen Hoang ordered the construction of Thien Mu Pagoda, originally named “Thien Mu,” meaning “Celestial Lady,” in honor of the woman in the vision.

Initially a modest structure, Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue grew in prominence over the centuries. In 1665, the pagoda underwent its first major renovation under Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan, who expanded its grounds and added new structures. In 1710, Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu commissioned the casting of a massive bronze bell, known as the Dai Hong Chung, weighing over 3,000 kilograms and inscribed with Buddhist sutras. This bell, still housed in the pagoda, is considered a national treasure and can be heard up to 10 kilometers away when rung.

The photo of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue was taken in 1930 (Source: Collected)

The pagoda’s iconic Phuoc Duyen Tower was added in 1844 by Emperor Thieu Tri of the Nguyen Dynasty. Standing 21 meters tall with seven stories, the tower became a symbol of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue and a landmark of the city. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the pagoda underwent several renovations, particularly under the reigns of Emperors Gia Long and Minh Mang, who were devout Buddhists and patrons of the pagoda.

Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue also played a significant role in Vietnam’s modern history. During the 1960s, it became a center of Buddhist activism against the oppressive policies of the South Vietnamese government under President Ngo Dinh Diem. The pagoda gained international attention in 1963 when Thich Quang Duc, a monk from Thien Mu Pagoda, self-immolated in Saigon to protest religious persecution. The blue Austin car used to transport Thich Quang Duc to Saigon is now displayed at the pagoda, serving as a poignant reminder of this turbulent period.

Despite facing challenges, including damage from wars and natural disasters like typhoons, Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue has been meticulously preserved and restored. Today, it remains an active Buddhist monastery, home to monks who continue to practice and uphold the traditions of Vietnamese Buddhism.

3. Exploring the Architectural Marvels of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue

Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue is a masterpiece of traditional Vietnamese architecture, blending Buddhist design principles with the natural beauty of its surroundings. The pagoda complex spans several hectares and includes a series of structures, each with its own historical and spiritual significance. Here are the architectural highlights you shouldn’t miss during your visit to Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue.

3.1. Tam Quan Gate: The Grand Entrance to Serenity

The Tam Quan Gate serves as the main entrance to Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue, welcoming visitors with its elegant three-arched design. This traditional Vietnamese gate, supported by sturdy pillars, is adorned with intricate carvings of lotus flowers and Buddhist symbols, reflecting the pagoda’s spiritual essence. The gate has two floors and eight roofs. Flanking the gate are two stone statues of guardian deities, known as “Dvarapala,” which are believed to protect the pagoda from evil spirits.

As you pass through the Tam Quan Gate, you’ll feel a sense of tranquility, marking the transition from the outside world to the sacred grounds of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue.

Distinctive patterns on Tam Quan Gate (Source: Collected)

3.2. Dai Hung Palace

Located in the main sanctuary of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue, the Dai Hung Shrine is dedicated to the worship of Maitreya Buddha—the deity who embodies carefree joy and happiness. The statue of Maitreya is portrayed with a gentle demeanor, large attentive ears, a big belly symbolizing tolerance, and a warm, compassionate smile. The shrine is built entirely from solid concrete, but its exterior is painted to resemble natural wood, creating a sense of closeness and familiarity.

Beyond the statue of Maitreya, the Dai Hung Shrine also houses a large inscribed wooden plaque dating back to 1974 and a delicately crafted bronze bell adorned with sun and moon motifs. Further inside lies the inner sanctuary, where the central altar is dedicated to the Three Buddhas of the Past, Present, and Future. On the left stands a statue of the Bodhisattva Van Phu, while on the right is Pho Hien. Notably, the sacred ground behind the Dai Hung Shrine is the burial site of Venerable Thich Don Hau, the former abbot of the pagoda.

Dai Hung Shrine – The Main Sanctuary of Thien Mu Pagoda (Source: Collected)

3.3. Phuoc Duyen Tower: The Iconic Seven-Story Symbol

The Phuoc Duyen Tower is the most recognizable feature of Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue, often depicted in photographs and postcards of Hue. Built just behind the welcome gate, this structure is considered the “soul” of the pagoda. Together with the surrounding structures, it forms a harmonious architectural ensemble that is both distinctive and uniquely Hue in character.

Phuoc Duyen Tower was built in 1844 by King Thieu Tri on the occasion of the longevity ceremony of Queen Thuan Thien – the grandmother of King Thieu Tri. At first, it was named Tu Nhan Thap. Then it was changed to the current name. At that time, to complete the Tower, the clay, stones, and Bat Trang pottery materials had to be transferred from outside.

Phuoc Duyen Tower – The Spiritual Heart of Thien Mu Pagoda (Source: Collected)

The body of the tower is made from raw brick, while the edges are lined with finely carved Thanh stone. The structure takes the shape of an octagonal tower, narrowing as it rises, with a total of seven stories—each approximately two meters high. Each level follows the same design and is painted a soft pink color. Over the years, the tower has weathered with time, adding to the charm and historical value of this architectural gem in the former imperial capital.

3.4. Dia Tang Palace

Located behind the Dai Hung Palace, the Dia Tang Palace is a smaller hall dedicated to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the guardian of the underworld in Buddhist tradition.
Tips for Traveling by Train in Vietnam

Traveling on trains in Vietnam is generally straightforward, but here are a few tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience:

1. Book in Advance

Train tickets, especially for popular routes like Hanoi to Sapa, can sell out quickly, particularly during peak travel seasons. It’s best to book your tickets in advance through official websites or reliable travel agencies.

2. Choose the Right Class

Trains in Vietnam offer a range of classes, from hard seats to comfortable soft sleeper cabins. For longer journeys, it’s worth upgrading to a soft sleeper or at least a soft seat for added comfort.

3. Pack Essentials

Bring snacks, water, and entertainment for the journey, especially for long trips. While some trains have food carts, the options can be limited.

4. Embrace the Experience

Traveling on trains in Vietnam is slower than other forms of transport, but it’s also more relaxed and scenic. Take the time to enjoy the views, chat with fellow passengers, and immerse yourself in the journey.

Wishing you the best experience on trains in Vietnam!

Going to the market is a way of life for almost every Vietnamese, especially Vietnamese women. In Hue, there are hundreds of big and small markets scattered around the town. Almost anything can be found at the market: fresh seafood, fresh pork, fresh beef, vegetables, tofu, different kinds of sauce, souvenirs, tea, etc. In such a small town as Hue, the market becomes an important and indispensable part of every family’s life. To have an experience of local people, visitors cannot miss a trip to the markets when they are in Hue. There are five well-known markets in Hue that we recommend visitors to visit: Dong Ba, Ben Ngu, An Cuu, Tay Loc and Phu Hau market.

1. Dong Ba market

Source: Instagram Hina_1111

Dong Ba market is the most famous market in Hue city and one of the most well-known markets in Vietnam. The market was established hundreds of years ago under the rule of King Gia Long. In 1899, King Thanh Thai moved Dong Ba market to the location where it still is until today. Dong Ba is a big market, having an area of almost 47.614 square meters. Located beside the Perfume river and Tran Hung Dao Street, one of the busiest roads in Hue, the market attracts thousands of customers coming in and out everyday. Dong Ba market is a symbol of Hue city.

This is the place where tourists go whenever they visit Hue. There are many shops selling traditional Hue’s food and souvenirs: sesame candy (me xung), Hue royal tea, palm-leaf conical hat (non la), etc. In addition, you can find multiple types of delicious food at the market, for example: Hue’s dumplings (water fern cake: banh beo, tapioca dumpling: banh loc, flat rice dumpling: banh nam, steamed rice sheet: banh uot, sticky rice dumpling on the fried sticky rice pancake: banh ram it), mussel rice (com hen), beef rice vermicelli (bun bo), etc. The authentically delicious taste of these foods cannot be found anywhere outside Hue.

Haggling skill is needed when you make any purchase. Some vendors unreasonably boost up the price when they know you are not a local. It is recommended that a local go with you to the market or you check the correct price before paying the money. Of course, this problem occurs everywhere in the world, not only in Hue or Vietnam. Being cautious will guarantee that you have a more rewarding experience in Hue.

Location: 2 Tran Hung Dao Street, Phu Hoa, Hue city

2. Ben Ngu market

Located beside the An Cuu river, Ben Ngu market is one of the most popular markets in Hue. Even though not many tourists pay a visit to the market, it is nonetheless a place worth taking a look at to have a better understanding of how local people’s way of life goes. There are many things that can be found there, ranging from fresh food, flowers, clothes, fruits and even living animals (ducks, chicken, etc), etc. This is where many people who live, study or work in the vicinity make a trip daily to buy food. In case you want to find the freshest food to cook or fruit to eat, Ben Ngu market is arguably the best place. If you can’t stand the smell of fresh meat, bring along with you a mask. Most people from Hue, no matter how well-off or penurious, have no problem with that smell. This is an interesting thing about Hue’s people that makes many tourists stand in awe.

Location: Phan Boi Chau Street, Vinh Ninh, Hue city

3. An Cuu market

The An Cuu market was first established beside An Cuu river, in the village of An Cuu, Huong Tra town during the period of King Minh Mang. Later, many Chinese came here and did business. An Cuu market has always been one of the busiest commercial areas of southern Hue due to its historical development and location. However, because the market was close to the French barracks, the French ordered the market to be moved to the current location. The previous location of the market is now Hue Central Cultural House.

You can find many things here ranging from fresh food to clothes. The market is also close to Big C supermarket and hundreds of different stores and restaurants.

Location: 89 Hung Vuong Street, Hue city

4. Tay Loc market

Tay Loc is a busy market located in the district of Tay Loc, which is on the northern side of Hue. The market appeals to many customers because of its cheap price. There are products put on sale all year round that have a reasonable price. It is one of the most popular flea markets of Hue. The market is usually packed with people at the end of every year. Visitors are recommended to visit Tay Loc market to get a good deal of cheap souvenirs and food.

Location: 209 Nguyen Trai Street, Tay Loc district, Hue city

5. Phu Hau market

Phu Hau market is a wholesale market, where you can find very cheap products to buy. The market was located close to Trang Tien bridge and later moved to Phu Hau district. The market usually starts its day from very early in the morning to distribute goods to different big and small markets in Hue and even the neighbouring province of Quang Tri. Many market vendors come here very early to pick up goods and start their delivery. You can find many things here like seafood, fruits, household appliances and accessories, etc with undoubtedly a fair price.

Location: 45A Nguyen Gia Thieu Street, Phu Hau district, Hue city

These are the best five markets that we recommend you to visit when you are in Hue. There are of course hundreds of other small-scale markets that you might drop by if time permits: Phuong Duc market, Thuan Loc market, etc. Besides, you might also find vendors selling fruits, veggies or even seafood on the street, which isn’t surprising at all to many Hue’s people and Vietnamese. Markets are a significant part of Hue’s people which shapes the city, its culture and its way of life. Next time you visit Hue, don’t forget to drop by at least one of these five markets.

Minh Mang (1791-1841) is the second king of the Nguyen Dynasty. He reigned the country from 1820 until his death in 1841. He is well-known for his fierce opposition to the French participation in the nation and his stiff Confucian belief. The king put forward a policy of alienation from the Westerners and showed strong distaste for the Western way of thinking. During his reign, the government was invigorated and the nation was protected against the invasion of Siam. He is an eminent poet. He is also said to have 43 wives and 142 children.

III. History of Minh Mang Tomb

Source: Instagram@pulceinviaggio

Kings of the Nguyen Dynasty prepared for their funeral when they were still far away from their death. In 1826, when the king was still 35 years old, he ordered his servants to search for a piece of land to build the tomb but not until 1840 was the land finally chosen. The geography mandarin Le Van Duc was assigned to design the tomb. The tomb was started to be constructed in 1940. After King Minh Mang passed away, his son King Thieu Tri continued the construction of Minh Mang tomb. In August 1841, the king’s coffin was moved to the tomb and buried. The construction was continued and completed in 1843.

IV. Architecture of Minh Mang Tomb

Source: Lux Travel DMC

The Minh Mang tomb consists of 40 different buildings, both big and small. Because Easterners are concerned about feng-shui, they have to make sure the kings have the best location to rest after their death. That explains why the tomb is located in the midst of mountains and rivers and the structure was highly complicated but organized. The buildings are well-proportioned and face each other in a symmetrical way, which reflects the firm, organized and conservative character of the King Minh Mang. The architect also made sure that nature was well-blended with the buildings.
As King Minh Mang was an eminent poet, his tomb was carved with poetic masterpieces, which are said to represent the selective poetry of Vietnam of the 19th century. Many modern architecture still stand in awe before the then-architects’ talent of designing. Strolling around the Minh Mang tomb, visitors have the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the tomb as well as the talent of the designers. They can also learn about the interesting history of the King Minh Mang and the Nguyen dynasty in the Imperial city of Hue, Vietnam, which is arguably one of the most well-known dynasties ever ruled in the world.
