At Da Nang International Airport, located in the central city of Da Nang, the local police have introduced four new automatic entry systems, commonly known as Autogates, which became operational on Tuesday. The main purpose behind this implementation is to expedite the immigration processes for travelers.
The Autogates have been strategically placed, with two of them installed in the departure section and the remaining two in the arrival area. During the initial stage of implementation, the Autogate facility is accessible to Vietnamese citizens possessing valid passports.
Individuals holding non-electronic chip passports are required to complete a successful registration process before being able to use the Autogate system. Once registered, they are only required to do so once, which then grants them permission for all subsequent entries and exits, as long as their passport remains valid.
It is important to note that at this point, the Autogate technology is not yet applicable to foreign passengers arriving in the country. However, foreign travelers departing from Vietnam can make use of the service if they possess valid residence cards or temporary residence cards issued by authorized Vietnamese agencies.
Deputy Chief Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Hao of the Da Nang International Airport police emphasized the pivotal role of information technology in enhancing administrative procedures. He explained that the Autogate system is expected to significantly reduce the time passengers spend on processing formalities, leading to a reduction in the number of personnel required at security desks within the airport. Moreover, he highlighted that this advanced system will bolster security measures and combat document forgery during the immigration process. This, in turn, will contribute to elevating Vietnam’s standing in the realm of international integration, particularly in the context of immigration management.
