The US transportation network company Uber has started offering helicopter tourism tours in Da Nang, Vietnam’s first destination for its new service Uber Chopper.
They offered free 15-minute rides to 20 users on the first day of the service Saturday, carrying them from Nuoc Man Airport over the central city’s most famous places including Ngu Hanh Son Mount, the Han River, Son Tra Peninsula and My Khe beach
In June the apps-based ride-sharing service company chose Bangkok as the first city in Southeast Asia to introduce a one-day free trial for its helicopter ride.
The service in Da Nang will be available until at least the end of August for VND2.3 million (US$104) a passenger. Each flight carries up to six people.
Interested customers only need to select the UberChopper option in the app and the company will send a car to pick them up.
They debuted in Hanoi last April, at the prices around a third of the average taxi fares in the capital city, and it came to Ho Chi Minh City three months later.
Dang Viet Dung, director of Uber Vietnam, said earlier that the company plans to expand to Nha Trang and Da Nang this year with the new services UberChopper and UberPool, the latter allowing customers to share a ride and split the fare. Dung said it will also allow customers to pay cash instead of accepting only credit cards.
