Lao Airlines has announced the resumption of its non-stop flight service between Vientiane, Laos, and Da Nang, Vietnam, after a three-year suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The flag carrier operated its first flight last Thursday, with 150 passengers on board. Starting this week, Lao Airlines will operate two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays between the two cities. The resumption of the direct route is expected to meet the increasing demand of visitors in the region following the lifting of travel restrictions.

Laos was one of the top 10 sources of tourism for Da Nang in 2022, with nearly 10,000 arrivals, accounting for 2% of its total foreign visitors. The resumption of Lao Airlines’ direct flight service is expected to further strengthen the tourism ties between Laos and Vietnam, providing more convenience for travelers between the two countries.

“The direct route between Vientiane and Da Nang was favored by a large number of tourists before the Covid-19 outbreak. We are delighted to restart this service and contribute to the recovery of tourism in the region,” said Noudeng Chanthaphasouk, the commercial director of Lao Airlines.

Lao Airlines had already resumed its direct flight services to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City after both countries reopened tourism. The resumption of the direct flight service to Da Nang is expected to further enhance connectivity between the two countries and promote bilateral tourism. As travel restrictions continue to ease, more airlines are expected to resume their flights to popular destinations in the region, boosting the recovery of the tourism industry.
