On September 28, Lux Travel DMC hosted a Sustainable Driving Training and Practical Guidance Programme for drivers and transportation partners across Northern, Central and Southern Vietnam, bringing together nearly 30 participants. Held at Lux Travel DMC’s Hanoi Operations Office at 472 Lac Long Quan, Tay Ho, Hanoi, the programme focused on an important part of the travel experience that is often taken for granted: transportation.
Drivers and vehicle services not only help guests move from one destination to another, but also play a role in the safety, environmental impact and overall quality of each journey. In line with Lux Travel DMC’s commitment to applying responsible tourism principles under Travelife, the session focused on practical topics including road safety, fuel and resource efficiency, emissions reduction, waste reduction and more responsible vehicle use.
During the session, Ms. Huyen, Sustainable Tourism Coordinator at Lux Travel DMC, shared that sustainable travel begins with every part of the guest journey, including transportation. Rather than focusing only on theory, the training encouraged drivers and partners to discuss what they are already doing, the challenges they face, and where further improvements could be made.
One example was drinking water on vehicles: how can water still be provided conveniently for guests while reducing reliance on single-use plastic bottles? Could refill solutions or reusable bottles work for different types of journeys? The group also discussed electric vehicles and more fuel-efficient transportation, looking at practical considerations such as travel distances, terrain, charging infrastructure, operating time and guest requirements. Ms. Huyen highlighted that sustainability does not always require major changes at once. Simple practices such as regular vehicle maintenance, avoiding unnecessary idling, driving efficiently and reducing unnecessary emissions can also make a meaningful difference when applied consistently.
The programme also provided an opportunity for direct exchange with the people who are involved in transportation services every day. Mr.Chu Xuan Dung, a transportation partner of Lux Travel DMC, shared his practical experience and suggested that training and knowledge-sharing sessions like this should be maintained regularly. He noted that regular updates would give drivers and partners more opportunities to exchange experiences, stay informed about new practices and continue improving service quality. These discussions also allowed Lux Travel DMC to better understand the practical challenges faced by drivers and transportation providers when introducing more sustainable practices, creating a basis for finding solutions that are realistic and suitable for daily operations.
For Lux Travel DMC, sustainable tourism is not limited to tour products, destinations or guest-facing activities. It starts with every link in the journey, including the vehicles and people who provide transportation services. Bringing together partners from across all three regions of Vietnam – North, Central and South was an opportunity to review what has already been done, discuss remaining challenges and identify practical improvements for the future. Sustainability is an ongoing process of learning, updating and improving, and Lux Travel DMC will continue working with its drivers and transportation partners to build journeys that are safer, more efficient and more responsible for guests, communities and the environment.
