I. Basic information about the Alexandre Yersin Museum
Yersin Museum in Nha Trang is the place to gather thousands of artifacts associated with the career of the doctor – genius scientist Alexandre Yersin (1863-1943) when he devoted his life to work and to contribute to Vietnam.
Alexandre Yersin died on 1 March 1943 in Nha Trang. In memory of Yersin’s credit, the museum was set up on the premises of the Pasteur Institute.

II. Who is Alexandre Yersin?
Dr. A. Yersin was born in Switzerland, then graduated from the Medical University in France. In 1891, he came to Vietnam and chose Nha Trang to live, work and stick his whole life to this land.
Dr. A. Yersin was the founder and first Principal of Indochina Medicine School, which was the forerunner of today’s Hanoi Medical and Pharmaceutical University; Founder of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute. He was the one who discovered the plague bacteria, and he was also a successful moderator of vaccines to prevent and treat the plague, leukemia, tetanus, cholera, etc.
Recently, Dr. A. Yersin has honored to be an “Honorary Vietnamese citizen”.
III. What to explore in Alexandre Yersin Museum?
1. Alexandre Yersin’s Research Works & Documents
Alexandre Yersin Museum is the place that preserves Yersin’s research and documents about his work and life in Vietnam. Alexandre Yersin Museum is currently located on the 2nd floor of the house in the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang.
This room is about 100m2 wide and has about 1,200 books and more than 50 Yersin items during research on fields such as medicine, astronomy, geography, etc.
Visiting the Yersin Museum, visitors will be surprised to see ancient artifacts and equipment for the research process of Dr. Yersin. These include a wide range of subjects, from old Leroy watches, documentary articles, morse signaling antennas, computers, globes to electrical measuring instruments, telescopes and many other unique laboratory tools.
2. Alexandre Yersin’s Modest Life
In addition to the tools and scientific research tools, when visiting the museum, visitors will see a modest doctor Yersin with tolerance and generosity. He devoted his life to researching and finding better treatments for human illnesses but the material conditions were very simple, ranging from rattan chairs, beds, bookcases, wardrobe to everyday items in his home.

If you have the opportunity to visit Nha Trang, let’s take time to visit the Yersin Museum, do not forget to see the autographs of the visitors who have been here for this respected scientist in the Golden Book of Souvenir. You can also write your feelings when you come to this place, see Yersin’s memorabilia with your own eyes.
This is also where the Pasteur Institute raises horses to make vaccines. Coming here, visitors will understand why Yersin had a lot of love for Nha Trang in the past through a letter to a friend “Come here with me, you will know how interesting it is here, the weather is not so hot, it is not too cold, and absolutely peaceful setting and a lot of work need to be done.”
By the way, don’t forget to stop at his grave at Suoi Dau (about 20km south of Nha Trang) to burn incense, at which you can enjoy the fresh, green air like the Lam Vien – Di Linh Plateau.
