The Mid-Autumn Festival is often on September or early of October based on Solar Calendar when the weather becomes cooler and the summer rains disappear. People believe that the moon in that day is the brightest and roundest. Therefore, it is also called “The family reunion” day. It is the day when people are closely tied to each other. All the family and close friends come together, enjoy traditional cakes called mooncakes, see the moon and chat. They give thanks to their ancestors and gods for protecting and bringing them the luck, health, happiness and pray for a good future.

For Vietnamese, Mid-Autumn Festival is also Children’s day when people emphasis on the celebration of children. Parents held a small party within family members for children to have fun. They buy colorful lanterns which vary in shape such as star, fish, butterfly or sphere and give their children as a gift.

It is so great if you travel to Vietnam during this period. In Hanoi, from the early of August (based on Lunar Calendar), when walking around Old Quarter, you will feel how special this day is.
