Hoi An is a city in Quang Nam, a central province of Vietnam. This little ancient town has the typical characteristics of a tropical climate with four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter, and yet, due to some special topographical characteristics and geographical location in the climate transition zone, Hoi An enjoys two main different seasons: the wet season (rainy season) and the dry one.

Dry season

The dry season in Hoi An starts from February to September. This period experiences the least rainfall or all-day rains, but you might catch some rainy days if unlucky. From February to April, Hoi An has the least fluctuation in temperature with an average of around 30°C (86°F), which is very suitable for tourists, especially families with kids to jog around and discover this lovely city. If you love to swim and play in the crystal clear water of An Bang Beach in Hoi An, May to July can be the best time with temperature reaching its peak in June.

Rainy season

Not as severe as some big cities like Saigon, the rainy/wet season of Hoi An has a higher chance of rainy days, yet chances of sunny weather are still decent. Starting from October to early February, this season brings the temperatures down to 25°C (77°F) on average. You should think twice before booking a flight here since, in the rainy season, there are chances of floods.

Chances of floods

From October to November, Hoi An has to face the possibility of flooding the Old Town with the bulk of the rain. But don’t worry, it is not like flooding happens on an annual occasion, but you just need to be aware of that when planning your trip.

Flood level can vary from knee-high water to multiple meters, with most of it restricted to the Old Town and its immediate surrounding areas. In times of flood, waterfront business often closes down until everything becomes normal again, yet you can experience the one in a million experience of sitting on a basket boat with locals paddling you through the picturesque laneways of Old Town.

Best time to visit Hoi An

As mentioned above, the weather in Hoi An can be tricky sometimes and you will have a memorable experience in whichever month you choose to come to Hoi An. Yet the greatest chance of a perfect-weather journey will happen from March to May and September.

March and May will be a perfect time for those from colder temperatures countries since that time, the weather here is quite mild with slightly above-average tourism, but not yet the hot time (which takes place from June to August) These springtime experience the least rainfall, which helps tourists to have a great time doing outdoor activities.
