Tour Plan

DAY 1: HANOI ARRIVAL

Welcome to Hanoi, the oriental gem of the Indochina, our driver will meet you at the airport and transfer to hotel, rest of the day will be at your own plan and exploration. Overnight in Hanoi.

Drive from hotel through the Chu Van An high school (Buoi school) is one of the oldest and most prestigious state schools in Viet Nam. Pass by the historical Ba Dinh Square where president Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the independence of Vietnam in 1945 and find out outstanding architecture, beautiful atmosphere around this square. Continue to General Vo Nguyen Giap’s house - where he lived and worked, holds many memories and souvenirs of a legendary man. Then reach to Lenin Garden, a communal space for locals. This also offers a perfect opportunity for people-watching, to get a better idea of the daily activities of the locals. Then, visit the Military History Museum, where photos and war remain will give you a first approach of Vietnamese history through its conflicts. Visit nearby Hanoi Flag tower and learn why it is one of the most respected symbols of the country. After that, we make our way through a small alley of Hanoi where sewing shops have been in family hands for generations and admire the daily life of local people who still practice old an old way of life in the alleys of Hanoi. Do not forget to bring your camera along to capture the unique experience. Continue walk to visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university built in the late 11th century and explore its role in the country’s past.

After lunch, continue to make a stroll around the charming Hanoi old quarter to explore the fascinating maze of back streets tour. Discover for an exciting and immersive way to experience Hanoi’s sights, sounds, and tastes. Start a journey to Duong Lam Village to trace back the origin of Vietnam's culture and Vietnam's traditions, pass by Ancient Citadel in Son Tay. Arrival village, a great chance explores architecture of ancient houses while wandering along its narrow alleyways. This village has been known as a museum of laterite with ancient houses aged up to 400 years old. It is also the only place in Vietnam where the two kings came from. King Phung Hung and Ngo Quyen - the two heroes who led resistance wars against China's Sung and Southern Han troops to recover national independence. Walk or bike around the village, you will explore the special architecture, traditional culture and traditions of countryside of Vietnam which is still well preserved today. After lunch at local household, head to Pu Luong natural reserve. Free time to explore the beautiful retreat with its captivating panoramic views and tranquil setting

This fresh morning will start with descending 6km into the beautiful valley facing the homestay where you walk around tumbling rice terraces. Trek through small paths shrouded in vegetation to slowly reveal a picturesque village sitting at the base of a towering mountain. This will certainly be the perfect time for sensational picture taking. Passing Uoi village – which is nestled among palm foliage, then continuing to move to Lan village where you can smell the smoke coming from cottages in the valley. Savor the ever-changing scenery as you trek to a beautiful spot. Then you will be having a picnic lunch and freshen-up before driving back homestay. Enjoy your nice dinner

Enjoy a 3.5hour drive to Ninh Binh province. It is a spectacular landscape of limestone karts peaks permeated with valleys, some of which are submerged, and surrounded by vertical cliffs.  Upon arrival Ninh Binh, check in Tam Coc Garden and rest. In the late afternoon, enjoy a leisurely biking trip ranging from 5 km to 15 km (depending on your wish) passing by sleepy villages and picturesque countryside sceneries.

Biking distance: 5-15km

Transfer head to Dong Tam hamlet to take part in some fun agricultural activities such as catching crab, fishing, transplanting and watering plants and more. After an hour or so, return back to the hamlet to join a cooking class and lunch with a local family where you learn how to prepare some local treats such as sweet potato cake and toasted fish. After lunch, keep riding to Nha Le boat pier and enjoy a rowing boat to Galaxy Grotto. The cave appears with curling line under thousands of sparkling stalactites with various shapes which suddenly on the right above curl of the cave ceiling. Transfer back to hotel.

Overnight in Tam Coc Garden (B/L)

After breakfast at the Lodge, this morning, drive 1.5hrs minutes from your hotel to a local house situated in Hong Quang village to meet with a water puppet artisan.  Born into a family with a tradition of performing water puppetry in Nam Dinh province, Mr. Phan acquired a passion for this folk art in his childhood. Inherited the talent & tradition from his father, he has profound passion of playing with puppets, making puppets by creating a mini stage for water puppetry and bringing his solo performances to several countries outside Vietnam.  Sit down for a cup of tea and learn his stories about how the water puppet originated, his memorable experience traveling to different corners of the world to bring Vietnamese culture & folklores to international friends. Then join a 30-minute show seeing lion dances, buffalo fighting, rice farming, and boat racing, etc. at his private mini water puppet stage on his top house floor. After the show, get yourself in artisan’s role to handle puppets in the water or join with Mr. Phan to make and paint the puppets. Drive back to Eco host to enjoy a lunch. In this afternoon, be picked up from Eco host with the local guide to a suburb of countryside for an afternoon of immersion in culture of Vietnam Red River Delta, in an authentic place still undiscovered by tourists. Start with a bicycle to visit Pham Phao cathedral where is famous for wooden carving and Traditional trumpet making Brass village. On the way, you will also see Tile-roofed Bridge was built in the 16th century with unique architecture. Then cycle to visit and experience the way to make a conical hat and interact with host family. Explore the daily life of local people and understand about the ancestor worship village. Afterward ride back to Eco host to relax and enjoy dinner.

Today, early wake up to explore a small typical local market in Dong Bien village. In this tiny village find all types of seafood products, fish, meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as many other products for sale. From here wander the path on foot with the guide – a great way to explore and discover the real daily life of a local residents, a traditional forging family in the village before return Eco host to get breakfast.

Then depart from Hai Hau for a 3.5-hour drive to Halong bay. Arrive at 12:00 and be greeted with a warm welcome and special tea at the Heritage Cruise’s lounge. Then it’s time to climb aboard the Heritage Cruise and check in; enjoy a welcome drink as you receive a cruise briefing and safety instructions. Sail onwards towards a natural frontier Haiphong. This secret hideaway has beaches, caves and coves, plus the spectacular natural beauty of 400 islands.

You can try kayaking or simply swim in the clear waters of the bay. After your aquatic activities, return to the Heritage Cruise and enjoy the luxuries on offer onboard or just relax in your suite, watching the sunset over the Gulf of Tonkin with cocktail in hand. Activities available include an afternoon tea and the chef will also lead a Vietnamese cookery class. A delectable dining experience to remember will be served on board; Savor the finely prepared local cuisine in an intimate and romantic setting. Bask in the radiant evening views of the bay at the bar on top deck. You will also have the chance to go squid fishing or watch a movie in the restaurant. The bars are open until late.
